On-the-Road Equipment Mechanic
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is to execute moderate to heavy repairs on equipment of all types and sizes, including excavating, paving and support equipment. Most repairs occur on-site, requiring the incumbent to operate a heavy service truck equipped with welding equipment, air compressor and crane. Typically, the Road Mechanic completes tasks of a higher degree of scope and/or complexity compared to the Mechanic, with little or no supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Observe, review, test and diagnose performance issues on equipment to determine appropriate parts and repairs needed, including operating diagnostic equipment
- Communicate diagnosis to Foreman and/or Parts department to obtain necessary parts and supplies to complete repair
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment as necessary
- Utilize power and hand tools to complete repairs
- Adhere to established safety procedures regarding lock-out/tag-out, hoisting and other typical shop activities
- Perform moderate repairs on engines, brakes, exhaust, hydraulic components, lights and electrical systems
- Operate truck in a safe and orderly manner according to all Federal, State, and Local regulations
- Operate truck according to CJ Miller LLC safety rules and procedures
- Maintain work order, log of maintenance and repairs performed to specific vehicles
- Perform complex repairs requiring complex diagnostics, including electrical systems or hydraulic systems
- Be a leader, work with other mechanics as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES:
- The ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- The ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job in accordance with the job requirements.
- The skillset to watch gauges, dials, or indicators to make sure the machinery in relation to the job is working properly.
- The ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Five years’ mechanical experience, three of which performing on-site, moderate to complex repairs on heavy equipment; two years’ experience operating heavy service truck
- Must have a clean motor vehicle record and current DOT Physical
- Candidate must be available to work night shifts as needed to support field operations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting. Must be able to function in the following environments: inclement weather, heat, humidity, traffic, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Standing, walking, bending, climbing and stretching are required outside in the weather for extended periods during the shift.
- The ability to sit for 6-8 hours per day in 2–3-hour intervals.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and the ability to move 50 pounds are regularly required to perform routine functions.
- Regular and peripheral vision sufficient to safely operate forklift equipment in an active work area and perform job functions as described above.
- Hearing must be sufficient to safely operate forklift equipment in an active work area.
Salary Range:
$28- 31 \hr. (Based on Experience)
