Operator – Heavy Equipment
Location: Kearneysville, WV
Position Summary:
We are seeking experienced and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in operating a variety of construction equipment, including backdump trucks, excavators, dozers, rollers, and loaders. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to high-quality standards
Essential Job Duties:
- Operate heavy equipment such as backdump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, rollers, and loaders in a safe and efficient manner
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (check fluids, grease, clean, etc.)
- Follow project plans, grade stakes, and supervisor instructions to complete tasks accurately
- Load, move, and place materials such as soil, gravel, and debris
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, including other workers, equipment, and potential hazards
- Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and site managers
- Assist with general labor tasks when equipment operation is not required
Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment (backdump, excavator, dozer, roller, loader)
- Strong understanding of construction site safety practices
- Ability to read and interpret basic site plans and grade stakes preferred
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with GPS or grade control systems
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Previous experience in construction, roadwork, or site development
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
- The ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
- Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds individually and up to 75 to 100 pounds with assistance
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work on site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
