Welder
Location: Hampstead, MD
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform welding services in the repair, replacement, and fabrication of parts, components, and attachments for trucks and heavy equipment. This role requires the ability to interpret work orders and specifications, operate welding and cutting equipment safely and efficiently, and ensure all repairs and fabricated components meet quality and safety standards. The Welder works independently and collaboratively to maintain and restore equipment functionality while supporting overall fleet and equipment operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
- Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions
- Adhere to established safety procedures regarding welding, lock-out/tag-out, hoisting and other shop activities
- Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
- Examine work pieces for defects, and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- One year of welding experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier items with assistance or mechanical devices.
- Work in confined spaces, elevated locations, and around heavy machinery and equipment.
- Use hands and fingers to operate welding equipment, power tools, and hand tools with precision and control.
- Maintain visual acuity to inspect welds, read blueprints, and identify defects or safety hazards.
- Frequently reach above shoulder level and work in awkward or restricted positions.
- Tolerate exposure to heat, sparks, fumes, dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, gloves, respirators, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
- Possess the stamina to perform physically demanding work for extended periods while maintaining attention to safety and quality standards.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Regular and peripheral vision sufficient to safely operate fork lift equipment in an active work area and perform job functions as described above.
