Environmental Services Manager
Location: Hampstead, MD
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for overseeing all environmental and industrial service operations at an on-site Maryland location. This role coordinates with the Vac Truck Dispatcher and oversees a team of operators and manages complex field operations including vacuum truck services, stone shooter scheduling, concrete washouts, vacuum dumpsters, steam pits, fleet fuel systems, and emergency environmental response. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational, safety, and team management experience in regulated or industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service Oversight:
- Manage environmental services for construction projects, including spill response, remediation, waste management, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the lead contact for environmental incidents and spills, coordinating with internal teams, regulators, contractors, and insurance companies.
- Work with insurers and claims adjusters to manage environmental spill claims, documentation, and reporting.
- Lead business development and sales efforts for environmental services, identifying new opportunities and generating qualified leads.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns to promote environmental service offerings.
- Research industry trends, competitors, and market opportunities to support growth initiatives.
- Schedule and attend client meetings, site visits, and industry events to build relationships and secure new business.
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and reports on sales activity, marketing performance, and environmental projects.
- Collaborate with construction and operations teams to ensure effective and compliant service delivery.
- Understand and coordinate with COO of Company on insurance rental rates and billing.
Fleet & Equipment Management:
- Ensure proper inspection, maintenance, and repair of vacuum trucks, stone shooters, and related equipment.
- Maintain records related to fleet operations, fuel usage, inspections, and compliance.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
Safety, Compliance & Emergency Response:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, DOT requirements (as applicable), and company safety policies.
- Lead and manage fuel spills and emergency environmental cleanups, including response, containment, reporting, and follow-up.
- Conduct safety meetings, field inspections, and audits.
- Investigating incidents and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Leadership & Team Management:
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate vacuum truck operators and environmental services staff.
- Coordinate staffing levels, scheduling, and timekeeping.
- Provide training on equipment operation, safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities:
- Manage departmental budgets, labor costs, equipment, and supply inventories.
- Collaborate with company leadership and other departments to support operational goals.
- Prepare operational, safety, and performance reports as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred; associate degree with relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in environmental services, industrial services, or field operations.
- Previous management or supervisory experience overseeing teams.
- Experience with vacuum trucks, heavy equipment, or industrial service operations.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards, environmental compliance, and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to manage emergency response situations effectively.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in industrial, construction, environmental, or utility service environments.
- Experience supervising CDL drivers or DOT-regulated operations.
- CDL Class A/B with Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsements.
- Familiarity with dispatching, fleet management, and fuel management systems.
- OSHA 10 certification (minimum); OSHA 30 strongly preferred.
- Training or experience in traffic control and work zone safety.
- Responsible Person training or Traffic Control Manager.
- Strong working knowledge of stormwater, construction site compliance, and environmental inspections.
Preferred Certifications (Company Assistance Available):

- TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain required certifications within a reasonable timeframe if not already held.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions:
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Ability to work in environments with loud noise levels, heavy equipment, and vehicle traffic.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and perform physical inspections for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 50 pounds, both independently and over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to safely wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, including after-hours call-outs when required.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- On-site position based in Maryland.
- Full-time schedule; may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call availability.
- Field-based work environment with exposure to heavy equipment, vehicles, industrial sites, and construction areas.
